PROVEN LEADERSHIP: Putting Student's First!
David Olson has served on the Peninsula School Board since 2013 - five years as Vice President and is the current President. David has worked tirelessly to support the students of the district, making certain all decisions were in their best interest.
Over the past eight years, David and the Board worked to regain community trust. Their success was evidenced by the voter's overwhelmingly passing the M&O Levy in 2017 and the Capital Bond in 2019. As a result, four new elementary schools will open in 2021 and two of the oldest middle schools will be fully modernized over the next two years.
David has been a strong and vocal advocate for expanding vocational & skilled trades opportunities for the students. Providing additional pathways for students to find well-paying careers without having to pursue a four-year degree. Additionally, the district recently added the Navy JROTC program which provides an additional resource for students. David also believes students should be taught "how to think, not what to think".
David has been passionately contributing to his community for over 20 years. Having been selected for two prestigious awards for his efforts - the 1998 GEICO Award and the 2002 Very Important Patriot Award. David also serves on the board of the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation.
David is originally from Texas. He entered the U.S. Navy after high school serving as a deep-sea saturation diver and later as a communications officer. He retired after a 28-year career, settling in Gig Harbor with his family. He is married to his wife of 23 years, Tonia - a former school teacher. Their children went through the Peninsula District, graduating from Gig Harbor High School.
